As summer approaches, Toronto’s Le Dolci Culinary Classroom is thrilled to announce the return of its Summer Baking Camp for Kids aged 7-11. More than just a culinary experience, this camp is a recipe for success, nurturing a wide array of valuable skills and lessons in children as they embark on a delicious journey of discovery. Here are a few key skills that kids who attend will learn:
Teamwork
Children discover the power of teamwork as they collaborate to follow recipes, divide tasks, and achieve a common goal. They learn the importance of cooperation and collaboration, setting the stage for future success in group settings.
Communication: Mixing Ingredients & Ideas
Discussing ingredients, sharing ideas, and coordinating tasks with other campers are all integral parts of the baking process.
Mathematics in Every Measure
Measuring ingredients, adjusting recipe quantities, and understanding baking ratios provide practical application of mathematical concepts in a fun and engaging way. Through hands-on experience, children develop a deeper appreciation for mathematics and its role in everyday life.
Cake Decorating: Where Imagination Takes Flight
Decorating baked goods and experimenting with designs for their cakes allow children to unleash their creativity and develop their own unique culinary style. Campers sketch out ideas each day of their cake designs that will be completed by the end of the week.
Fine Motor Skills
Tasks like cracking eggs, stirring batter, and piping frosting help children develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Through hands-on activities, they refine their dexterity and gain confidence in their abilities.
Confidence: Baking Up Self-Esteem
Successfully completing baking projects and receiving positive feedback boost children’s self-esteem and confidence.
Additional fun at the camp:
-
Mornings of Zen: Before baking, kids meditate and stretch
-
Fun & Games: Dancing to TSwift, outdoor scavenger hunts, water fights & park visits are all part of the fun.
